A Puppy Pet Portrait Commission

A puppy pet portrait (black conte and white pastel pencils on gray paper, 10x8 inches) sold

Day 20 of my 30-paintings(drawings?)-in-30-days of November.

I finished an adorable puppy portrait today. This one is not it, as usual, I like to preserve the surprise for the client and so this is one of my favorites from last year (and is now on my business cards!)

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I'm quickly jumping in to the busy Christmas Season of portrait commissions. If you like this one, consider placing an order for yourself or a special gift! Portrait drawings starting at $150. Visit ritakirkmandrawings.com for more samples and ordering info.

Sunset #58 - day 19

"Sunset #58" (pastel, 6x6 inches) click here to bid or buy

Day 19 of my 30-paintings-in-30-days of November.

This was my last little "bonus" demo at my workshop in Wimberley TX this week.  I found myself wondering how different the same sunset might look on the black surface that I usually use on sunsets. I played around a bit more with this one, and added a little hint of reflection in what looked like a stream on the ground as the painting developed. Here's the other sunset, done on a gold and terra cotta underpainting:

"Inky" (pastel, 8x8 inches) $250 unframed for a limited time

Day 12 of my 30-paintings-in-30-days of November.

This little black sheep is from the ranch of Jonas Show Lambs close to where I live. This was from one great shot I caught on my last stop over there. I painted her first last summer ("Ebonita") as a 6x6, and enjoyed it so much I decided to do another slightly larger!

T is for Tiger - day 11

"T is for Tiger" (pastel, 12x12 inches) $490 unframed for a limited time

Day 11 of my 30-paintings-in-30-days of November, and finally the continuation of my Alphabet Series that I started last year. I suppose the series has worked for me, since it was originally something to get me out of a slump and excited about painting again. It worked so well I still haven't finished the series! Haha!

Here are some progress shots:
